About Center

The Centre for Autonomous Systems (CAS) is an interdisciplinary research and development centre at ABV-IIITM Gwalior established to promote research, innovation, teaching, and skilled manpower development in the rapidly evolving field of autonomous systems.

Advancements in modern technology have enabled machines to make autonomous decisions in real-world environments while continuously adapting through environmental feedback. Applications of autonomous systems include robotics, self-driving vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, automated agricultural processes, industrial automation, warehouse automation, and many more.

The field of autonomous systems is growing rapidly, with intelligent machines increasingly being adopted across multiple sectors. Research activities at the institute span several cutting-edge domains; however, autonomous systems require an interdisciplinary approach where expertise from different departments comes together to address complex real-world challenges and achieve common research goals.

The Centre actively aims to collaborate with similar centres and research organizations in India and abroad to exchange knowledge, expertise, and research opportunities. It will also organize workshops, national and international seminars, conferences, internship programs, and other academic activities in areas related to autonomous systems.

Major focus areas of the Centre include robotics, control systems, motion planning, machine intelligence, deep learning, intelligent vehicles, intelligent transportation systems, robot vision, and other emerging technologies associated with autonomous systems.

Initially, the Centre will focus on developing an autonomous vehicle for in-campus navigation. Seed funding will be sought from the institute to initiate the project, while research proposals will simultaneously be prepared for external funding agencies to support future developments and large-scale research initiatives.

The primary objective of the Centre is to provide a stimulating and collaborative environment for students, researchers, faculty members, and visiting scholars to undertake world-class research, teaching, innovation, and product development in the field of autonomous systems.

To solve global research problems in the area of autonomous systems using novel methods suited

for the Indian context, leading to research products and knowledge creation.

  • To conduct cutting-edge interdisciplinary research across departmental boundaries in the field of autonomous systems.
