5G Lab
The 5G Use Cases Lab has been established under the Government of India’s prestigious “100 5G Use Cases Labs Initiative.” Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi formally awarded the 5G Use Cases Lab to ABV-IIITM Gwalior during the inauguration of the India Mobile Congress 2023. This national initiative aims to foster expertise, innovation, and active participation in 5G and beyond technologies among students, researchers, educators, and the startup ecosystem. The program is being coordinated and overseen by the Department of Telecommunications.
The state-of-the-art 5G Use Cases Lab is equipped with advanced 5G standalone (SA) mid-band cellular infrastructure, including 5G SIMs, dongles, IoT gateways, routers, application servers, and an integrated management dashboard. The laboratory also features compact 5G network setups and advanced use-case platforms such as drones, AR/VR test kits, and startup innovation kits to facilitate the development of next-generation applications in domains including education, healthcare, agriculture, smart cities, defense, and industrial automation. The lab serves as a testing, prototyping, and innovation hub that supports skill development, interdisciplinary research, and startup incubation aligned with India’s technological and societal requirements.
Engineering institutions and research organizations across the region can collaborate with ABV-IIITM Gwalior to utilize the 5G Use Cases Lab for advanced research, training, and educational activities. The laboratory strengthens the institute’s integration with the global digital innovation ecosystem by enabling cutting-edge research in 5G and emerging 6G technologies. It also facilitates international collaborations, joint research projects, scholarly publications, and partnerships with leading industries, academic institutions, and startups worldwide.
The lab provides students and researchers with valuable hands-on experience in advanced wireless communication technologies, network deployment, IoT systems, edge intelligence, and AR/VR-enabled applications. Such exposure significantly enhances their technical competencies and employability in the rapidly evolving digital and telecom sectors. In addition, the ecosystem created through the lab encourages innovation-driven entrepreneurship and supports the development of startups focused on 5G and future communication technologies, thereby contributing to India’s growing deep-tech and startup landscape.
